ADVERTISEMENT AND PURPOSE OF POSITION

The coordinator of liturgy serves on the pastoral staff and supports the vision, mission and values of Saint Clement Church by managing the liturgical celebrations, including, but not limited to: weekend liturgies, holy days of obligation, holy week, confirmations, first communions, school Masses, funerals, and weddings. The coordinator serves as the on-site axis of coordination at the liturgies. This position also includes volunteer recruitment, basic liturgical minister training and scheduling of ministers. A strong candidate will be friendly, calm in stressful scenarios and able to bring pastoral sensitivities to difficult situations. Must be available on weekends, evenings, Christmas Eve, Holy Week and Easter. Saint Clement Church is committed to a collaborative model of ministry, involving both staff and volunteers.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Practicing Roman Catholic with knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic faith and traditions.
  • Great appreciation for liturgy and general knowledge about church worship.
  • Ability to bring a spiritual and pastoral presence to the volunteers and congregation.
  • Highly detail oriented.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to take direction, provide leadership and utilize good time management and multi-task in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience with project management, communications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to initiate and develop open, respectful, positive and cooperative relationships.
  • Strong administrative skills, computer skills.
  • Availability for weekends and evenings.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Manages the liturgical celebrations, including: weekend liturgies, holy days of obligation, holy week, confirmations, first communions, school Masses, funerals, and weddings. The coordinator serves as the on-site axis of coordination at the liturgies.

  • Works with director of liturgy to plan and coordinate liturgies.
  • In addition to liturgical details, the coordinator is attentive to all that takes place on Sunday morning and assists with coordination i.e. speakers at Mass, special surveys, distribution of parish formation materials, etc.
  • Becomes trained as every liturgical minister and assists as a liturgical minister when needed.
  • Is able to communicate clearly to ministers and set a calm and prayerful example.
     

Volunteer recruitment, scheduling of ministers: Liturgical ministries include lectors, extraordinary ministers, sacristans, altar servers, thurifers, bread bakers, greeters, liturgical environmentalists, baptism greeters and other roles that occur during festivities such as holy week, Christmas, etc. 

  • Works with the parish staff and parishioners to recruit volunteers for each ministry.
  • Responsible for scheduling of liturgical ministers.
  • Maintains an accurate database of liturgical ministers.
  • Assists director of liturgy with basic minister training.
  • Organizes the annual appreciation dinner.
  • Serves as wedding coordinator and schedules coordinators.

Baptism Scheduling

  • Maintains Baptism schedule
  • Compiles paperwork.
  • Communicates details to families.
  • Prepares materials for baptism day
  • Prepares materials for baptisms not taking place at Saint Clement.

Liturgical Environment

  • Organizes and recruits for Christmas and Easter decorating.
  • Prepares decorations and materials.
  • Assist director of liturgy in designing, implementing and maintaining the church decoration throughout the year.

All-School Masses

  • Coordinate weekly All-School mass during the school year

Other responsibilities

  • Participate in liturgy staff meetings.
  • Participate in full parish staff meetings. Currently bi-weekly on Tuesday from 10:00am-11:30am.
