Description:

Exciting full-time professional opportunity with benefits in the far NW Suburbs of Chicago (Diocese of Rockford, IL) for the right candidate interested in being an integral part of a team in developing a modern parish. Yamaha C7 grand piano, no organ. Music resources from GIA & WLP in the pews; parish is accustomed to use of video screens for song lyrics and very contemporary repertoire (but not exclusively). Duties include but are not limited to: • Planning and executing music for all liturgies • Directing small adult choir with skilled contemporary instrumental ensemble • Working with dedicated cantors (inc. teens) • Co-leading enthusiastic children’s choir with volunteer director • Overseeing and collaborating with established Spanish choir/ensemble • Playing/directing 3 English Masses per weekend (Sat. 5 PM, Sun. 8 & 10) plus holydays, and assist with 11:30 AM Spanish Mass if needed • Overseeing, coordinating with and training other liturgical minsitries including Lectors, EMEs, Liturgy Coodinators, Altar Servers, etc. • Coordinating closely with assistant Liturgy coordinator, AV department, clergy and other staff to realize vibrant, prayerful, inspiring liturgical experiences, and help grow new disciples of Christ • Playing key role in helping to discern the gospel-focused “Message” that will guide Parish life going forward, with the aid of a “Message Design Team.” The successful candidate will be a humble, collaborative person accustomed to multitasking and deadlines, to working with many different kinds of people, and willing to step outside of their professional comfort zone.

Requirements:

Required qualifications: • Minimum Bachelors’ degree in music, or Liturgy, or related field • Fluent piano skills (no organ) • Ability to direct a choir • Good communication and teaching skills • Good liturgical knowledge and understanding • Professional attitude Desired but not required: • Understanding of Catholic theology and scripture • Computer skills including ‘Planning Center Online • Some basic experience with Spanish language and culture • Willingness to learn and be taught • Compassion for those in the learning process • A creative mind and a willing heart for ministry
