Job Description
The Dean of Student Life is directly accountable to the principal, and serves as a member of the Principal’s Team. His/Her responsibilities include: the formation and promotion of a positive school culture and the effective implementation of the school’s behavior management policies and procedures.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements the Goals and Criteria and the philosophy of Sacred Heart education.
- Models the mission and vision of Josephinum Academy and the IBO.
Establishes a school culture conducive to the spiritual, academic, social, emotional, and physical growth of its members.
- Develops and refines attendance, discipline, and safety policies that promote a positive school culture, rooted in a commitment to personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.
- Models the practices of restorative justice.
CULTURE/PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements, refines, and enforces a behavior management model that is congruent with Goal 5 (personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom) and restorative justice practices in a culturally and economically diverse student body.
- Develops and implements student orientation programs designed to build a sense of community among the incoming class, while educating them on the culture, policies, and norms of the school.
- Establishes metrics of success for, and evaluates, the student life program at Josephinum.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains discipline records. Compiles information from student referral incidents, categorizes and analyzes this information, and uses the data to inform/refine existing policies/practices.
- Supervises the maintenance of student attendance records.
- Plans and supervises emergency drills (fire, severe weather, bus evacuation and lockdown) and maintains appropriate records.
- Proposes and manages student life budget.
- Updates student/parent handbook, as well as the school’s Crisis Management Plan with appropriate changes.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree (preferred)
- 3-5 years teaching experience at middle or high school level is required
- 3 years administrative experience (preferred)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)
- IB experience (preferred)
