Description:
Duties and Responsibilities: Serve as the primary musician and as the Choir Director and Contemporary Group Director.
Serve as musician at all three (3) weekend liturgies. (4 p.m. Saturday (Anticipated); 8 a.m. & 10 a.m. Sunday)
Serve as musician on Holy Days and at other special parish events as needed.
To grow and maintain a ministry of Cantors, Adult Choir, and Contemporary Group. To direct the parish choir (weekly) and Contemporary Group (once a month). To foster and to encourage musical participation by the congregation. To serve as a member of the parish staff and to attend monthly staff meetings. Meets with supervisor monthly. Responsible for the music library. Prepare in cooperation with the parish business manager an annual budget.
Will provide a suitable substitute musician in absence of any liturgy.
Must work as a team player and promote the parish in a positive manner.
Other duties as designated by the Director of Parish Ministries, Religious Education, and Facilities and/or the Pastor. Develop a children’s choir.
Provide music at funerals and weddings as available.
Requirements:
Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, a parish of 900 families in Oakbrook Terrace, IL has an immediate opening for a part-time Music Minister. This individual will accompany, lead, and prepare appropriate music for the weekend liturgies, Holy Days, and other seasonal liturgies or services. This position reports directly to the Director of Parish Ministries, Religious Education, and Facilities. Bachelor’s degree or better in Performance on Piano or Voice (or other instrument), Music Education, Liturgical Music and/or related field is required. A minimum of five years of experience as a Music Minister in a Parish setting is required. Familiarity and experience in the Roman Catholic spiritual and liturgical life are a must. Background check and Virtus training are required of all Parish employees. Compensation commensurate with experience.
