Position Summary

The Data Analyst plays an essential role in developing evidence-based analysis and synthesizing solutions to new and emerging challenges faced by the Archdiocese of Chicago. The data analyst works with key internal stakeholders and stakeholder groups (Office of the Archbishop, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Renew My Church, Parish Operations, Office of Catholic Schools (OCS) and Stewardship and Development) to prioritize our improvement initiatives and enhance the execution thereof with essential data analysis.

• Develops a structured approach to provide analytical expertise to other Pastoral Center departments

• Owns processes for regular data collection and analysis

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develops a structured approach to provide analytical expertise to other Pastoral Center departments, operating as an internal consultant

  • Optimizes and operationalizes data for internal stakeholders; day-to-day involves receiving and prioritizing requests from different departments, summarizing key insights, and counseling clients on implications ? Internal clients include:
    • Office of the Archbishop
    • Chief Operating Officer
    • Renew My Church
    • Parish Operations
    • Office of Catholic Schools (OCS)
    • Stewardship and Development
  • Leads complex analyses that emerge as organizational needs 
    • Manages parish and school financial models  
    • Forecasts long-term implications of Mass attendance, school enrollment, and other current trends
    • Analyzes surveys for insights by demographic groups
    • Creates models and dashboards that provide key data-driven insights for decision makers and field teams
  • Owns and streamlines processes for regular data collection and analysis
    • Manages OCS student and school analysis data, updating based on annual OCS student enrollment and testing results, and conducts demographic and geographic analyses with available data
    • Manages regular reporting mechanisms such as financial dashboard files providing monthly insights for parish finance teams
    • Supports OCS with annual tuition setting and collection analyses
    • Works closely with IT to modernize data infrastructure, debugging issues in the data warehouse and helping migrate data over to streamline routine analysis in the future
  • Other projects as needed or assigned


Position Specifications

  • Education required: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Skills required:
    • Strong analytical skills Proficiency with MS Excel Strong data visualization and dashboarding skills
    • Strong leadership skills
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Strong planning and organizational skills
    • Strong understanding of Church and parish life
  • Skills preferred: Experience with or strong interest in SQL Experience with or strong interest in other data tools (Power BI, etc.)
  • Other required: Must demonstrate understanding, respect, and support for Catholic Church, teaching, mission, and values
