Description:

Position Summary

Under general direction of the Director of Compensation and Benefits, the Senior Benefits Specialist implements, administers, maintains, and communicates benefit programs, policies, and procedures. Reviews and recommends benefits programs that are attractive to employees, comply with legal requirements, and are cost effective. Benefit programs include 403(b), retirement, leave programs, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability.

Essential Responsibilities

· Primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators in relation to employee benefit, claim, enrollment, and eligibility issues.

· Monitor and verify compliance with applicable Federal and state regulations, including ACA, FMLA, ADA. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting.

· Reviews benefit enrollment data and premiums for accuracy in HRIS and benefit enrollment systems.

  • Manages the open enrollment process with vendors and HR Operations Team.
  • Under guidance of director works with
  • Respond to escalated benefits and 403(b) inquiries from HR Operations Team or management, regarding plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes, and other inquiries.
  • Effectively administer PPL, FMLA, and ADA, reviewing and approving applications and other related leaves of absences/disabilities.

· Monitor benefits billings against the benefits budget.

· Review/update benefits communication material.

  • Prepare and conduct benefit education programs for employees and management staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Requirements:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Thorough working knowledge of employee benefits and applicable federal and state regulations including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation and DOL requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Power Point as well as HRIS.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field, however, experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education.
  • Five or more years of employee benefits administration experience.
  • SHRM-CP or CEBS professional designation preferred.
