Position Summary

The Archdiocese of Chicago’s Office of Catholic Schools is entering a dynamic period of growth for its students, schools, and Church. We believe school principals are a cornerstone of that growth and seek a dynamic Director of Leadership Formation to direct our efforts to develop, recruit, and support our principals.  The Director of Leadership Formation reports to the Chief of Academics and serves as a representative of the Office of Catholic Schools (OCS) in driving, coordinating, and supporting the primary leadership initiatives for Catholic schools. These initiatives are directed at recruiting, retaining, supporting, and continually developing school principals.  


General Responsibilities

  1. Develops and manages a multi-year pipeline of high quality principal candidates sufficient to meet the needs of Archdiocese schools. Ensures that an adequate number of quality candidates are available to fill vacancies.
  2. Works with current school leaders, universities, and other partners to assure that potential future principals are systematically identified and encouraged. Assists individual principal candidates with obtaining the required qualifications, as necessary and appropriate.
  3. Works with external partners to operate a Leadership Academy that introduces teachers, assistant principals, and others to the responsibilities of an Archdiocese school principal.
  4. Manages and coordinates the principal hiring process. Revises and distributes the Hiring Manual for School Pastors. Oversees the vetting of candidates and manages the principal Hiring Pool. With the Regional Directors, assists local search committees and pastors with the interview/hiring process.
  5. Coordinates the New Principals’ Academy. Oversees mentoring process for new principals.
  6. With the Chief of Academics and Regional Director, defines, communicates and coordinates individual professional development plans for all principals of Archdiocesan-sponsored schools.
  7. Provides overall coordination for the evaluation process for principals. Works with Regional Directors and pastors to assure that all principals are objectively evaluated.


Qualifications and Skills

The successful candidate will:

Requirements:

  • Four years’ experience in elementary or high school leadership & administration (Catholic school preferred)
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership (or equivalent field)
  • Certifications Preferred: Type 75 or PEL with principal administrative licensure
  • Must be a practicing Catholic with a personal faith commitment
