Description:

Position Summary:

Provide direction, supervision, planning, and coordination of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) programs in the Archdiocese of Chicago, in accordance with the principles of the Renew My Church initiative. 

CRS Responsibilities:

• Provide support to parishes, schools and other religious institutions participating in program activities by responding to identified needs such as placing speakers and workshop facilitators, assisting in the development of local social justice organized efforts 
• Participate in outreach efforts to constituency by promoting specific emergency appeals 
• Participate in the promotion of CRS collections as well as justice educational efforts 
• Assist the program director in providing program and logistics support to the work of interns, volunteers and consultants
• Maintain updated database system for all program components
• Assist in the staffing of various working committees
• Prepare orientation manuals for working committees
• Enter CRS data; analyze, maintain accurate data collection system and coordinate accountability efforts with constituency
• Maintain sound system of program expenses and monitor budget  
• Maintain updated filing system for all program components
• Give presentations on Catholic Social teaching to groups around the Archdiocese
• Other duties as assigned

CCHD Responsibilities:

• Administer the CCHD appeal (annual collection), optimizing accountability and efficiency through transparency and expediting remittances.
• Maintain sound record system of program expenses, income, and grant disbursements 
• Coordinate CCHD promotion and communications to raise awareness about impact, highlight Catholic identity, and maximize parish participation (e.g. developing parish materials, bulletin editors marketing/advertising efforts, social media, and website)
• Manage CCHD local grant allocations and advise on national grant allocations including: 
• Vetting of applicants through application review and site visits 
• Preparation of funding recommendations and approval materials for Cardinal Cupich 
• Accompanying funded groups through presence at events, relationship building, and monitoring of activities 
• Assembling and managing a local volunteer committee 
• Design, coordinate, and build relationships to promote CCHD social justice education and action programs 
• Supervise, onboard, and mentor USCCB-funded intern annually (in addition to other interns, practicum students, pro-bono consultants and/or ministry volunteers)
• Support young adult justice education events & strategy (monthly “encounters,” JustFaith/social justice small groups, etc.) 
• Promote knowledge and teaching of Catholic Social Teaching through formation and training, in collaboration with other HDS staff 
• Build and maintain relationships with key Archdiocesan offices including bishop’s office, Communications, Finance, Stewardship & Development, Catholic schools, etc.
• Coordinate activities and facilitate relationship building with parishes, schools, institutions of higher learning (i.e. University Partnership Initiative), seminaries, social ministry offices, and other anti-poverty groups in the Archdiocese to increase Catholic participation in CCHD funded organizations
• Serve as liaison between Archdiocese of Chicago and national CCHD office including providing periodic reports, attending national/regional meetings, and making recommendations concerning methods of improving and/or facilitating the work of CCHD on the diocesan level

Requirements:

• B.A. in theology or social science 
• 1-3 years’ experience of general office procedures
• 3-5 years of social ministry, social work, non-profit, education, or related 
• Good oral and written communication skills 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Power Point 
• Understanding of systemic change, community organizing strategies, and economic development initiatives. 
• Ability to give presentations to small groups, i.e., social justice committees, parish councils, students, etc.
