Position Summary

Monitor Archdiocesan priests temporarily withdrawn and/or canonically removed from ministry in accord with the Charter and Norms for the Protection of Children and Young People or as per the direction of the Cardinal.

 Essential Position Functions

  • Develop, manage, and monitor an individual safety plan for each cleric removed from ministry.
  • Collaborate with Vicars for Priests and Director of Assistance Ministry to provide therapeutic professional assistance both for the purpose of prevention and the cleric’s own healing and well-being.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with pastoral, psychological and physical care providers.
  • Conduct announced and unannounced random on-site visits to residences, work sites, or any location planned to be visited as per their daily log, of clerics removed from ministry.
  • Verify self-reported activity of priests and reports of their activities provided by their on-site monitors and other appropriate archdiocesan personnel.
  • Review and approve requests for travel beyond day-to-day activities, i.e. overnight away from residence. Approve chaperones and prudent companions. Make contact with person listed on travel request form and travel companion to confirm travel dates as well as restrictions for priest to be supervised.
  • Be knowledgeable of priests’ compliance with Individual Specific Protocols. Attend annual meeting to review Individual Specific Protocol with each priest.
  • Document actions taken by supervisor, the supervisor’s interactions with priests, on-site monitors, travel companions and so on, Document priests’ failure to comply with Individual Specific Protocols and inform appropriate archdiocesan personnel.
  • Make recommendations and provide supporting documentation to appropriate archdiocesan personnel for priest’s failure to follow Individual Specific Protocols.
  • Coordinate with Information Technology Department to develop online report systems.
  • Perform other duties and special assignments as needed.


  • Education: Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field
  • Experience: 5+ years in probations, corrections, law enforcement or 5+ years working with sexual offenders and/or victims of trauma, experience in asking uncomfortable questions
  • Skills: Ability to ask uncomfortable questions, knowledge and understanding of database administration, Microsoft Office Suite and computer/phone surveillance procedures

Preferred Position Skills and Experience:

  • Fluency in Spanish or Polish a plus.
