Position Summary:

The Building Maintenance position is an entry level position within the Real Estate department of the Archdiocese of Chicago. The Building Maintenance position operates and maintains HVAC equipment and building automation systems, low pressure boilers, VAV boxes, hot water coils, fan equipment and various types of mechanical equipment.                                                             

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment such as changing of filters, belts, lubrication ofbearings, etc.
  • Monitor and log all HVAC equipment daily: low-pressure boilers, domestic water pump pressure, ejector pump operation, etc.
  • Maintain and log Fire/Life Safety System.
  • Report and record daily findings of mechanical equipment to Building Maintenance Manager.
  • Record and respond to tenants' various work order requests such as temperature issues, light bulb request, etc. in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records of all work performed on mechanical equipment using Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Perform daily inspections of interior and exterior of building: reporting unlocked doors, vandalism, etc. to Building Maintenance Manager.
  • Perform other building related tasks (electrical, carpentry, snow removal, salting of sidewalk, relieving of security and parking attendant when necessary, set-up of conference rooms.)


Education Required: High  School Graduate or GED

Education Preferred: Technical training  at Community  College or equivalent.

Experience Preferred: Knowledge  and experience  of general building maintenance. Knowledge of any of the following fields a plus. HVAC, electrical, carpentry or plumbing. 

Skills Preferred : Basic knowledge  of HVAC equipment, troubleshooting abilities, power tools, plumbing or carpentry.

Other Preferred: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, ability to communicate clearly and must have good organizational skills.
