Position Summary:                                                            

The Accounting Support Specialist has the lead responsibility for supporting customers by designing, deploying and maintaining accounting practices and reporting of results for the Parishes of the Archdiocese.  The position will also be responsible to assess, research, design, deploy and evaluate effective training curriculum and materials for appropriate audiences.  This will involve supporting Best Practices for all Parishes and building working relationships with all customers. The Accounting Support Specialist is an experienced accountant with strong customer focus. This position reports to the Parish Reporting and Support Manager.


  • Ensure financial performance information from Parishes is robust, timely and accurate.
  • Supports the Annual Report process and assists Finance in their consolidation of Annual Reports.
  • Assist Parishes with all inquiries and requests.
  • Create and update standard reports that can be used by Parishes for their own reporting and analysis of results.
  • Plan and create materials for preparation of annual Parish Budget Process.
  • Track all parish annual reports and budget reports and assemble large amounts of information into meaningful reports with analysis and metrics.
  • Apply benchmarks to Parish results and identify areas of improvement and implement.
  • Develop and maintain a documented system of Parish accounting policies and procedures.
  • Make recommendations to further utilize specific training plans for individuals, Parishes and Archdiocesan wide reporting initiatives.
  • Assist in the design, development and maintenance of the Parish Support Tracking System.
  • Provide a high level of customer support to parishes by responding timely and accurately and assist in designing and integrating a workflow for other departments to respond to parishes in a more efficient manner.


  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business Administration, or equivalent work experience and 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and reporting.
  • Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects as well as strong follow through skills.
  • Ability to complete projects timely and accurately.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Communication and strong customer relationship skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast paced, dynamic team environment. 
  • Develop automated applications and coordinate information requirements to increase productivity.
  • Undertake such other duties and tasks as may lie within the scope of this post to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service.
