Position Summary

The Operations Director oversees the Stewardship and Development Operations Team and the Gift Systems Manager to ensure excellent gift processing, pledge fulfillment for campaigns and annual giving, donor stewardship and database management. As a leader of the office of Stewardship and Development, the Operations Director manages a team responsible for communication with external constituencies ensuring professionalism, timeliness and accuracy to strengthen affinity to and trust in this archdiocese.

This person is responsible for overseeing the fulfillment staff and operational systems serving more than 100,000 capital and annual donors. S/he will lead by example and motivate the operations staff to serve the mission statement of the Office of Stewardship and Development in their interactions with pastors, parishes, donors, internal offices of the archdiocese and with external vendors.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with the Chief Development Officer as the public facing representative of the Operations Team of the Archdiocese of Chicago
  • Play a leadership role in improving core S&D operations functions including gift processing, donor recognition, pledge fulfillment, and donor database
  • Manage gift fulfillment for $420MM+ capital campaign and $15MM+ annual fund
  • Lead team of five Donor Relations Assistants and Gift Systems Manager, setting staff goals, monitoring work, and evaluating results
  • Manage relationships with key Stewardship and Development vendors to ensure efficiency, compliance, and top performance
  • Work closely with Director, Finance and Administration in Stewardship and Development to track and report fundraising revenue.
  • Attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performing team members, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility, span of control, and performance.
  • Work with other Stewardship and Development department leaders to develop and maintain systems to establish and track goals, metrics, and progress
  • Act as liaison with banking institutions and the Archdiocese Finance Department to ensure quality control of all transactions/gifts received in person, in the mail, e-giving and in-pew.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5-7 years’ fundraising and management experience; experience in donor relations, gift fulfillment, and vendor management preferred
  • BA/BS degree – preferably in communications, fundraising, nonprofit management, or equivalent professional experience
  • CFRE preferred
  • Proven track record of driving change
  • Demonstrated leadership in a high-performing development office
  • Excellent interpersonal, project management and verbal and written communication skills, strong work ethic, enthusiasm, confidence, and the ability to lead and work collaboratively
  • Must demonstrate understanding, respect, and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission, and values
  • Strong knowledge of software including Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge, Portfolio, or other fundraising CRM systems
  • Ability to read, write and speak fluently in Spanish or Polish a plus
