Position Summary

The Director of Giving is a leader on the Stewardship/Development team and is responsible for the supervising the Major Gift Officer and Parish Relations Officer teams.  They will also be responsible for planning, cultivating, solicitating, and stewarding a portfolio of major gift prospective benefactors to benefit the ministries of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

He/she will also work closely with other AOC representatives including the archbishop, bishops, clergy, religious, gift managers and other staff and volunteers.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Major Gift Officer and Parish Relations Officer teams
  • Identify, qualify and solicit major cash, pledge and bequest gifts from potential benefactors in support of the Archdiocese of Chicago (AOC) by matching archdiocesan fundraising priorities with prospective benefactor interest
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 75 prospective benefactors: develop written solicitation strategies and proposals, purposefully guide them to make major investments in the AOC and develop relationships to maximize their giving potential over time
  • Manage the prospect management process to ensure coordination of major gift cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities
     
  • Participate in creating communication materials to support the articulation of the case for support, solicitation of gifts, and reporting to benefactors and parishes
     
  • Plan, coordinate and implement activities to generate a greater sense of connection and ownership for ministry priorities from major gift benefactors
     
  • Provide gift solicitation training and opportunities for staff and volunteers to be involved in the gift solicitation process
     
  • In coordination with the Senior Director of Development, formulate annual solicitation goals; benefactor moves management activity as well as income and expense budgets and track progress against goals 
     
  • Provide timely, written reports regarding the outcome of cultivation and solicitation activities, and perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Development.
     
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years philanthropic gift solicitation experience
  • BA/BS degree — preferably in communications, fundraising, nonprofit management, or equivalent professional experience
  • Management of staff and volunteers in the Moves Management process
  • Experience with fundraising in a parish or school-based context preferred
  • Demonstrated success in achieving fundraising results through personal solicitation and relationship management
  • Demonstrated leadership in a high-performing development office
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, strong work ethic, enthusiasm, and confidence, and the ability to lead and work collaboratively
  • Must demonstrate understanding, respect, and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission, and values
  • Above average computer skills in software such as Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge, Portfolio
  • Ability to read, write and speak fluently in Spanish or Polish preferred
