Position Summary

In collaboration with the Office for Religious (OFR) and the Executive Secretary, Priests’ Placement Board, the Director for Extern and International Priests is responsible for the timely and accurate vetting and processing of all visiting religious order and diocesan extern priests  prior to issuance of priestly faculties and/or determination of an assignment in the Archdiocese of Chicago, be it serving one day or longer or through successful incardination (permanently transferring to this archdiocese) if desired and deemed appropriate. Through the vetting process, the Director will judge suitability for a ministerial assignment within the Archdiocese of Chicago to determine that the candidate is able to fulfill the requirements of a ministerial role. Position may evolve to include coordination with other offices involved in the care and support of priests.



  • To communicate with bishops and leadership of religious communities in the process of screening and interviewing candidates from their diocese or religious community to determine eligibility for ministry in the Archdiocese of Chicago;
  • To conduct interviews of applicants to determine suitability for Archdiocesan ministerial assignment; to assure an applicant’s compliance with the Archdiocese of Chicago’s requirements for the issuance of faculties;
  • To provide input and recommendations to the Executive Secretary of Priests’ Placement regarding faculties for new Priests seeking assignments; 
  • To coordinate the onboarding of international priests to include the International Priests Initiative Orientation Program involved with acclimating priests to American ecclesiastical and civil culture; to develop a best practices seminar, and parish orientation program.
  • To serve as a liaison for priests in the incardination process, including collecting appropriate documentation, monitoring files, and communicating decisions regarding various phases of the incardination process to other offices.


  • Familiarity with the Catholic Church and passion to work therein;
  • Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish (Polish is a plus);
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience;
  • Ability to handle confidential data discreetly;
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a timely manner;
  • Proficiency with database management software and Microsoft Office;
  • Demonstrates strong skills in being both organized and detailed minded;
  • Ability to work well with individuals at all levels; openness to other cultures.
