Position Summary

In alignment with the Mission of the Archdiocese of Chicago (Archdiocese), the Employee Relations Director leads and manages the Archdiocese’s employee relations team and function. The Employee Relations Director guides the Employee Relations team to be a resource for all employees, and provide expert consulting, guidance, and support to Archdiocese religious and lay leadership and employees. The Employee Relations Director will work together with his or her team and the greater Human Resources team to assess current Employee Relations practices, and develop, communicate, and implement new practices that are consistent with the Catholic faith, Archdiocese culture, and considered best employment practices.

 

Responsibilities

  • Establish and implement the strategic direction of the Employee Relations team, including all required initiatives and tactics.
  • Provide strong leadership to the Employee Relations team, offering guidance and direction, and help team members develop their professional skills and grow their knowledge.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across the Archdiocese.
  • Promote knowledge, understanding, and compliance with employment laws and Archdiocese policy.
  • Act as Employee Relations subject matter expert and trusted advisor to Archdiocese leadership, providing counsel and helping to assess and determine action regarding Employee Relations practices and situations; participate in developing documentation, and facilitate meetings with employees and managers.
  • Identify, evaluate, develop, communicate, and implement Employee Relations best practices and processes. Create metrics, analyze data, report assessment, and communicate and implement improvement initiatives.
  • Working with Organizational Development and Training team, develop and facilitate training.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and SHRM certification a plus, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience in Human Resources, with a strong emphasis in Employee Relations.
  • Significant demonstrated experience in Employee Relations, with thorough knowledge of employment laws and practices, e.g. EEO, FLSA, ADAAA, and FMLA, and how to apply them.
  • Ability to work and be entrusted with highly confidential and extremely sensitive information.
  • Ability to develop, communicate, and implement practices and processes.
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership, judgment, problem identification and solving, planning, decision making, collaboration, interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Data driven, with strong attention to detail and the ability to assess difficult situations.
  • Ability to manage conflict, and work in a changing environment.
  • Self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, a strong sense of urgency and ability to execute.
